One person is dead after a Saturday evening avalanche in northern Colorado’s Rocky Mountains near Berthoud Pass in Grand County, sheriff’s officials said.

Few details were immediately available but a sheriff's office spokesperson said the avalanche was triggered around 4:45 p.m. in the "Fingers Area" on Berthoud Pass near Winter Park.

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - One person is dead after another avalanche occurred on Saturday. The Grand County Sheriff’s Office got a report of a skier-triggered avalanche in “the Fingers” or High Trail Cliffs of Berthoud Pass at 4:45 p.m. Saturday. According to officials, the avalanche did result in one death.

In a separate incident, four people caught in another avalanche escaped serious injury, Colorado officials say.

Four people were buried Saturday, including one who died, in two avalanches in Grand County Saturday afternoon, according to the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.

One person was killed Saturday when a skier triggered an avalanche in Colorado, the Grand County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
