A rainbow crosswalk that was part of the Pulse Memorial site in Florida was removed overnight, according to NBC affiliate WESH. The news station reported that the crosswalk located on the south side of the Pulse Nightclub at West Esther was originally painted in 2017.

Orlando officials on Thursday condemned the state’s overnight removal of a rainbow crosswalk outside the Pulse nightclub – a commemoration of the 49 people killed at the LGBTQ-friendly nightclub in 2016.

According to Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, the crosswalk was painted over sometime on Wednesday night by the state without the permission of the city government.
