Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskiy and European leaders are to meet Donald Trump in Washington to discuss Russian leader Vladimir Putin's offer of terms to end three years of war in Ukraine.

U.S. President Donald Trump said he and Russian President Vladimir Putin did not reach a deal to end Russia’s war in Ukraine after talks in Alaska on Friday, as the two leaders offered scant details on what was discussed but heaped praise on one another.

The US president will meet his Ukrainian counterpart in Washington on Monday in the wake of his Alaska summit with Vladimir Putin on Friday.

The highly anticipated summit ended without a breakthrough. Afterwards, Trump said Ukraine and Russia should proceed straight to seeking a full peace deal instead of a cease-fire.

In President Donald Trump’s warm red-carpet greeting at the Alaska summit, Russians saw an opening to pull America away from its traditional allies in Europe.

Trump promised during his campaign that he would end Russia’s war on Ukraine on his first day back in office, which is now 207 days ago.

Ahead of the meeting, Trump appeared to place the onus of ending the war on the Ukrainian leader, while emphasizing that Ukraine must give up Russian-annexed Crimea and its hopes of joining NATO — key Kremlin demands.
