Researchers discovered a new 'tiny' moon using NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, the largest, most powerful telescope ever launched into space.

The James Webb Space Telescope has spotted a never-before-seen moon orbiting Uranus, bringing the planet's count of natural satellites to 29.The moon, for now dubbed S/2025 U1, is just 6 miles (10 kilometers) in diameter,

A team led by scientists at the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) in Colorado made 10 different 40-minute exposures of Uranus using JWST's Near-Infrared Camera (NIRCam) in order to find the small moon. Its discovery brings the total number of known Uranian moons to 29.

The James Webb Space Telescope has spotted a previously unknown moon orbiting Uranus, the solar system's tilted seventh planet. This new space discovery brings the ice giant world's bevy of moons up to 29, a count that includes a yet-to-be-named moon discovered in 2023.

Even though S/2025 U1 is pretty tiny, measuring only 10km wide, the team behind the moon spotting say that it's big news.

Jupiter, Mercury, Neptune, Saturn, Uranus and Venus will be visible in the early morning skies over America from Sunday, Aug. 17, to Wednesday, Aug. 20. FOX 5's Liv Johnson reports.
