From Friday, ten sluice gates at the Vaal Dam were opened after water levels at both the Vaal and Bloemhof dams rose to over 100% capacity.

The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) closed two sluice gates at the Vaal dam over the weekend to reduce outflow.

Though today's level is lower than last week's, the dam is still almost quadruple its level compared to the same period last year, when it stood at only 30%.

A total of 10 sluice gates are now in operation at the Vaal Dam, after three additional sluice gates opened on Thursday, to manage rising water levels.
