Orlando officials on Thursday condemned the state’s overnight removal of a rainbow crosswalk outside the Pulse nightclub – a commemoration of the 49 people killed at the LGBTQ-friendly nightclub in 2016.

The mayor of Orlando, Fla., said that the crosswalk mural, which featured the Pride flag’s colors, was removed overnight this week. Community members protested and have, for now, repainted it.

Of course they did this in the middle of the night because they knew what they were doing was wrong," state Sen. Carlos Smith said.
