On election night, two lawmakers quietly killed a U.S House bill to restore Social Security benefits to many public employees. House leaders plan to revive it.

The House passed House Resolution 82, the Social Security Fairness Act of 2023, on Tuesday, Nov. 12. H.R. 82 aims to eliminate two provisions in the United States, including the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO).

Louisiana Congressman Garret Graves' bill would eliminate the Social Security penalty for 2.8 million government retirees, including 90,000 in Louisiana.
