The White House announced Thursday that the board at the Kennedy Center voted "unanimously" to rename the building the "Trump-Kennedy Center."

"I’m going to grab a pickax and pull those letters off that building," Kerry Kennedy said on social media Friday.

Workers added President Donald Trump's name to The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Friday as some lawmakers and Kennedy family members push back on a decision to change the venue’s name.

Some members of the Kennedy family and several lawmakers expressed opposition to the move and questioned its legality.

Workers at the Kennedy Center began adding Donald Trump’s name to the arts venue on Friday after a board he chairs voted to rename it, a move Democrats called illegal and John F. Kennedy’s family denounced as undermining the slain president's legacy.

The signage follows a board vote to rename the performing arts complex the Trump Kennedy Center. Only Congress can change the official name, experts say.

The Kennedy Center is the latest building in Washington to have Trump’s name carved into it. He recently had his name added to the building for the U.S. Institute of Peace. The Kennedy Center did not immediately respond to an email message seeking comment Friday.
