Today marks the 250th date of birth of Arthur Wellesley. Arthur Wellesley became the 1st Duke of Wellington, and a towering figure in British history. Winner of Waterloo, defeater of Napoleon in 1815, and British Prime Minister (1828–30, 1834). He was synonymous with notions of "Britishness" - the stiff upper lip, unfussy straightforwardness and incorruptibility in office.
