An archived video clip from the Smithsonian Channel puts some perspective to a terrible day in naval history. 52 years ago, on January 14, 1969, the warhead of an unguided Zuni rocket detonated aboard USS Enterprise (CVN 65). The blast and subsequent fire claimed the lives of 27 of her sailors and injured over 200 as the carrier was engaged in training operations off the coast of Hawaii prior to heading to Vietnam. | Hampton Roads Naval Museum
